Job Summary

As the official of over 21,000 full-time students, HSF continually offers a wide range of services and programs to Humber students. The HSF is looking for an experienced student to join our Humberlife team, a bi-weekly publication that is distributed to all three Humber campuses, in the role of:

Editor-in-Chief

Position Summary

  • Keeping track of all newsworthy stories/events happening on all campuses (North, Lakeshore and Orangeville)
  • Working closely with Layout Editor to ensure content is balanced and appropriate
  • Copy-editing all second drafts of stories and relaying them to the Layout Editor
  • Organizing layout with the Layout Editor
  • Writing briefs, full-length stories and columns to deadline
  • Writing editorials relevant to that particular issue
  • Responsible for all content in the paper
  • Responsible for ensuring standards for CP style and the HSF are met
  • Liaising between the Communications Director, HSF Executive, and the Humberlife staff
  • Addressing issues that may arise with or between staff members
  • Bringing fresh and innovative ideas to Humberlife, be it stories, layout, or general operations of the newspaper
  • Working closely with the Managing Editor to ensure all elements of the newspaper are running smoothly
  • Being aware of the strengths and weaknesses of team members, and use those in the most advantageous ways possible

Ideal Candidate

  • Minimum 1-year journalism experience
  • Familiarity with Quark and Photoshop an asset
  • Must possess strong production and organizational skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Must be available to work extended hours on bi-weekly production nights
