Title: Deputy Returning Officer
Position Type: Part-time
Location: North and Lakeshore Campus

Job Summary

The Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) is hired by the Humber Students' Federation to govern the election process. This position requires motivation and the ability to work independently to meet deadlines. The incumbent will also need to be flexible, accessible and creative.

Job Responsibilities

In conjunction with the guidance of the CRO the DRO will be responsible for:

    • The DRO, who is primarily responsible for the elections at Lakeshore, will report to the CRO on all election issues.
    • Consult and advise College departments of upcoming election by advertising in the Communiqué and conducting classroom visits.
    • Establish the number of students enrolled in each school by contacting the appropriate Humber ITAL staff. This will help to calculate the amount of positions available in the By-Election.
    • Organize and chair the All Candidates Meeting & ensure that there is effective communication between the CRO and the candidates.
    • Facilitate an All Candidates Meeting and with the candidates establish acceptable behavior and posting regulations. Establish a contract that reflects the results of the meeting and have all the candidates sign it.
    • Facilitate three All Candidate Forums (North) and one at Lakeshore.
    • Ratify and sign off on the election with the Director of Student Affairs and the candidates' scruteneers.
    • Release the final results, and any other information about the elections, to the Humber ITAL media (Humber Etc., CKHC).
    • Respond accordingly to problems as they arise
